Applications Of Neodymium Magnets

Any object or material which has the capacity to create its own magnetic field is believed to be a magnet. There are various kinds of magnets with different properties. Permanent magnets develop their own continuous magnetic field like that of a refrigerator which remains continually magnetized to stay on the refrigerator surface. Ferromagnetic and Ferromagnetic materials are those that develop a permanent magnetic field and attract other magnets. To say, these are the materials that have the capability to be magnetized like nickel and iron for instance. An electromagnet contains a wire coil which is mostly wrapped around a ferromagnetic material which gets magnetized by an electric current. Neodymium Magnets.

Ferromagnetic or ferromagnetic materials are used to form all types of permanent magnets. If all the magnetic ions of the material is said to make positive contribution for magnetizing the material, the material is said to be ferromagnetic. On the other hand, the material is said to be ferromagnetic, if some of the magnetic ions subtract from the magnetization. The refrigerator magnets are formed by ferromagnetic materials.

Neodymium magnets are made of iron, boron, and neodymium alloy which form the strongest type of permanent magnet which is currently known. These magnets are often called rare earth magnets as the elements of these magnets are found in rare quantities. After the steady and gradual decrease in the prices of these magnets, these magnets make an affordable choice. This is the main reason why these magnets are often used in the production of most of the new technologies. Computer hard drives, cordless tool motors, speakers and headphones, children’s building toys, roller coasters, etc are some of the examples of the technologies where the rare earth magnets are widely used. Neodymium Rare Earth magnets are highly vulnerable to corrosion and oxidation, and are easily breakable. Hence these magnets are mostly plated or coated with protective treatments. Some of the coating treatments for these magnets include tin, epoxy resin, nickel, gold, and zinc. There are various companies producing these magnets and they come in various sizes and shapes to suit all kinds of uses.

Electromagnets also have wide usage in many areas. Since their magnetism gets active in the presence of electricity, they prove to be useful in various things like generators, loudspeakers, industrial heavy lifting machinery, MRI machines, motors, and other scientific equipment so that it is easy to terminate the magnetic field when required. The biggest advantage of these magnets over permanent magnets is that these magnets have the ability to manipulate the field strength by controlling the amount of electricity which is fed to the device.

All kinds of daily activities and products use magnets in some form or the other. Neodymium magnets are more popular type of magnets because they are strong, cheaper and readily available.
